Color in the Time of Quarantine: Does #socialdistancing have you feeling blue?

ree

Hi, everyone! It's Sam, your Murfreesboro designer!

The Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) has impacted us around the world, requiring us to self-quarantine and practice social distancing. Pantone’s Color of the Year is Classic Blue, but don’t let that color reflect on your mood. This hue is here to instill calmness, confidence, and connection into your 2020.

For the past 20 years, Pantone has gathered yearly research to predict the color trends people are drawn towards. Color specialists travel the world looking for inspiration that will capture worldwide attention. They search various places such as “the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions.” The color choice is very important: It’s known for sculpting multiple industries especially design, whether that be through fashion, interior decorating, graphics, industrial etc.…

Pantone color intelligence strategically picked this hue because Classic Blue is a relaxing color that people gravitate to. Its natural beauty reflects humans' innate need to connect with nature.

According to color psychology, blue is a favored color. The color has many positive effects on humans, calling the mind to feel calm and serene, helping lower the pulse rate and body temperature. Also being a sign of stability and reliability, case studies have shown incorporating blue into the work environment boosts overall productivity.

I’m willing to bet Pantone's color intelligence team didn’t know what 2020 had in store for us, but I believe their color choice is perfect this year! Classic Blue highlights our desires for the future and fosters resilience into the unknown.

Here are a few ways you can think about incorporating Classic Blue into your home. (Side note: Love what you see? We can price and order any of these gorgeous pieces for you!)
